5 Ways To Take Your At-Home Archery Training Up A Notch

The global outbreak of the novel coronavirus has certainly added complications to conduct even menial tasks in our day-to-day lives. With every public center and archery club coming to a close and visitation limits on the open ones, it has been challenging for toxophilites and professional archers to keep up with their game. Besides, not every archery practitioner has access to every equipment such as rotating mounting bracket, paper tuning station, target bag stand, among others. Archery is a compilation of many aspects. Proper strength training and exercises can improve your draw weight but also enhance the accuracy of your game. This blog shares five tips and tricks to keep your archery game on point while staying at home.

INCORPORATE UPPER BODY TRAINING

Archery looks easy. It is the responsibility of a skilled marksman to make it look easy. However, it takes a lot of strength to take the impact of an arrow shot and pull power. Incorporate pushups and pull-ups into your daily routine. Include weight training with a dumbbell bent-over raise, standing shoulder flys, and weighted push and pull movements.

USE RESISTANCE BANDS

Resistance bands are a versatile tool that allows several exercises. It mimics the pulling action and replicates the draw cycle of the bow and arrow minus the let-off. You can stand over the band and pull from its end to work your shoulder or even tie it around a steady, sturdy place and perform a range of pulling exercises.

WORK IN PYRAMID SETS

Pyramid sets refer to a combination of a set number of arrow shots. Start with shooting 6 in a row, then go for nine, twelve, fifteen, twelve, nine, six, and end with three. Competitions often create intense pressure where archers need to showcase their practice standards. Pyramid sets are a great way to push your archery game out of your comfort zone. Performance plateau can be hard to break in archery. Working in pyramid sets is a great way to break that consistency and set a new mark for yourself.

BACK-2-BASICS

Every professional archer has a practice kit and a competition kit. However, it’s always great to go back to the good ‘ol low-end kit to brush up your foundation. Resistance bands and beginner bows are a great way to improve stance and overcome little challenges hindering your efficiency.

TIME YOUR SHOTS

Whether it’s a plank or practicing your shooting, setting a timer always helps. In case you don’t have a stopwatch, counting helps too. You can set intervals between two shots and note the draw time. For instance, go for 7:14 ratio. Count till seven in your head while you draw a shot, and wait till fourteen counts before you take out your next arrow. Relaxed and sets make for better and more accurate match play.
